We’re here to support you
with your American Airlines pension plan
Thank you for your years of dedicated service to American Airlines. We are continually looking for ways to enhance the team member experience, including how you plan for your future and manage your retirement benefits.
With that goal in mind, American will be transitioning the administration of its pension plans to Fidelity Investments to create a more consolidated and simplified experience for your retirement income. Fidelity has more than 25 years of experience, and a demonstrated track record, in providing administrative services for companies’ retirement plans, like American’s 401(k) plans.
At a glance, what you need to know:
-
American Airlines will be transitioning the administration of its pension plan to Fidelity Investments in two phases. Pension plans for flight attendants; TWU team members; and agents, management and specialists (AMS) will transition on Nov. 1, 2022. The plan for pilots will transition on Jan. 1, 2023.
-
The move will not change the pension plans or your accrued benefit(s).
-
Your pension benefit information will transition to Fidelity.
-
Payments for in-pay team members will continue without interruption and will now be sent by Fidelity.

With Fidelity, you’ll be able to easily manage your pension plan benefits online through Fidelity NetBenefits®. And, if you have an American Airlines 401(k) account, it will be simpler than ever to manage your retirement income, because your pension and 401(k) accounts will be at the same place.
The transition will happen in two phases:
-
Effective Nov. 1, 2022: AMS Pension Plan*, Flight Attendant Pension Plan and TWU Pension Plan*.
-
Effective Jan. 1, 2023: Pilot Retirement Benefit Program.
*The AMS Pension Plan includes Agent, Management, Specialist, Support Personnel and Officer team members. The TWU Pension Plan includes Fleet and Tech Ops team members represented by the Transport Workers Union.
Your pension transition to Fidelity
-
This transition will not change the pension benefits you’ve accrued at American. Your pension benefit payments are secure, whether you are in-pay or will commence your benefit at a later time.
-
Your pension benefit information will transition to Fidelity. However, you should review your information after the transition.
-
Payments will continue without interruption.
-
After the transition, pension payments will be sent by Fidelity (not State Street Bank), and you’ll access your pension information through the Fidelity NetBenefits® website.
-
Fidelity offers educational resources, both online and in person, to help you put a retirement strategy in place that includes both your pension and your 401(k).
